BIT: Departments
Departments:
Transwarp Technology
- "No wormhole nearby? Make your own!"
- This department specializes in the development and study of more efficient
ways to generate, maintain and utilize Transwarp Conduits. Although it is a
relatively new department, already The Collective has managed to incorporate
many of our doctoral candidate's ideas into our newer vessel designs.

Stellar Cartography
- "Maps are irrelevant."
- This department specializes in the mapping and cartographic publishing of
the various sectors within the Delta Quadrant. As more of our vessels venture
into other regions of the Galaxy (Alpha, Beta & Gamma Quadrants), more
information will be compiled and distributed. It is interesting to note that
in our exploration of the Alpha Quadrant, we have encountered several vessels
which have significantly mapped regions belonging to such inferior species as
the Ferengi, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians and various members of what is
known as the United Federation of Planets. Scout vessels have been dispatched
to the Alpha Quadrant to collect more information.

Cybernetic Engineering
- "Medical Experimentation? Nah...we call it 'Progress'."
- This department specializes in testing new cybernetic implant technologies
and the implementation of a positronic neural-net is part of many BORG theses.
Begun by "The One" (Stardate 46982.1) on Borg
Vessel 18253, its ultimate purpose is to establish a technological background
whereby all BORG can become completely artificial life-forms.
Department Chair: The One (Lore)

(No longer active - as of 46983.6)

Bionics
- "We can rebuild him. We have the technology."
- This department specializes in the study and testing of how combining
cybernetic hardware with biological organisms varies as a function of time,
age, gender and species. In the past, many inferior species found
assimilation into The Collective both painful and difficult. However, it is
hoped that through our study of how bionic-implantation techniques have
improved, we can better serve the galaxy's inhabitants by improving their
quality of life.

Materials Science & Engineering
- "If you build a better mousetrap..."
- This department specializes in the research & development of more durable
materials (alloys, polymers, etc), for use in assimilation, propulsion, vessel
design, etc. In conjuction with the Subspace Physics Department (not listed
here), we play a key role in the development of "cutting-beam" technology.
Department Chair: 340 of 396 (Sternbach)
Vessel ID #: BV-2000NX
BORG-NET Address: 340@BV_2000NX.borg.org
Systems Engineering
- "Working harder to serve you better."
- This department specializes in the study of BORG production networks &
processes (transportation of consumables, energy transfer & production,
information distribution, etc.) and how their relative efficiency (or lack
thereof) effect vessel operation. This department is one of several that are
vital to The Collective's ability to function as a whole.

The 3rd of 5 (Hugh) Center for Individualist
Studies
- "E Pluribus Unum!" - "One Among Many!"
- You're kidding, right? Oh please, like we really have time to create an
entire department for a rogue member and his quaint little delusions. Dang
Starfleet contaminants. 8(

Operations Management
- "We Bring Order To Chaos"
- Our most popular department of late introduces the participant to the many
facets of Collective Operation. Communications, Heirarchical Command
Structure, even Training of new "assimilatees" is addressed in the course work.
Enrollment in this department is a must for anyone planning to specialize in
the other aspects of the
Collective.
